a flawed providence

June 11, 2010 - July 10, 2010

Opening reception June 11, 2010, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

As we in South Florida poise for the arrival of the toxins from the BP oil spill, many of the works in a flawed providence picture cities and environs that are already blighted and have been for a long time. Little has been done to avert disaster - the inevitable impact of the oil would seem to be more of the same - the results of inaction.

In the second half of the show, works suggest a cautious optimism; signs of determined goodwill, whimsical inventiveness, and savvy use of our technologically-enhanced interconnectedness may continue to stave off horrible fates. Or they may not.
