Dorsch Gallery is pleased to present a solo show by Audrey Hasen Russell, Gold Slaw.
Russell will build on her intricate vocabulary of materials: repeating patterns of rhinestones are geodes; constructed and sewn contours are glimpses of the landscapes of her past and present. Her approach to sculpture abuts roughness with grace, as she mixes techniques like assemblage with craft. In this manner she brings to her sculpture questions of masculine and feminine aesthetics, overriding the respective disparity between the regard accorded avant-garde assemblage techniques as opposed to methods classified as craft or DIY. She unites the disparate genres in a common goal - to operate as vehicles for formal exploration and also metaphorical representation.
This is Russell's first solo exhibition at Dorsch Gallery. Through the generous support of the Fountainhead Residency, she is coming to Miami to work on her exhibition throughout the month of August.
Russell was also a part of Bubble Raft.
