Prescience introduces 8 new artists to Dorsch Gallery, encountered in New York City in April of 2008. The exhibition includes work by Martin Basher, Thomas Beale, Katherine Behar, Catherine Czacki, Michelle Hailey, Kristine Moran, Martin Murphy, and Alison Read Smith.
Prescience is not a thematic group show. The ways in which the artists' practices came to our attention was not simply through a blanket assessment of all the artists in New York, then an editing based solely on taste. Chance, combined with overlapping social networks, intellectual and interpersonal chemistry contributed to the kinds of work we encountered in a short period of time. We chose to present here those artists whose work and engagement with their practice left us wanting to learn more.
The title Prescience is used more freely to indicate that we present these artists' works as a certain kind of glimpse into the gallery's future. That is, the works presented here stand for the beginning of new relationships between gallery and artists, and also between new artists and the gallery's audience
